June is National Safety month, and in observance of this important topic we will post a new article each week in June that focuses on safety to promote a safe and healthy workplace. Check back next week for the next post in this safety series.
One of the most important things we do at Braun Intertec is create a safe and healthy work environment. As an employee-owned company full of field technicians, environmental scientists, engineers and more, we encounter hazardous situations in our work every day. Whether on a job site, a drill rig, in our labs or garages, safety has to be a priority at Braun Intertec. Because at the end of the day, we want all of our employee-owners to return home to their family in the same condition they left in.
Several years ago, we decided to “turn up the volume” on our safety efforts. While safety had always been important at Braun Intertec, our growth had made it impractical to send safety messages “the way we’ve always done it.” So, we came up with a new approach. We added resources to our safety team – both people and money. We solidified leadership support for the safety program. Our safety team put together a safety representative program to keep each department and office informed of new safety equipment, policies and practices. This group also became great advocates for safety. They talk to team members about safety, they tell the safety team about near misses and have creative ideas for how we can improve our safety efforts. This is truly an employee-owned effort. We added rewards for safety reporting – not just incidents (lagging indicators), but near misses (leading indicators). Last year, we launched our “Safety Employee of The Year” award program. And for us, these actions continue to foster and grow a safety culture.
At Braun Intertec, oursafety teamseeks to continually improve our processes, procedures and behaviors. We invest in safety with extensive employee training and engage our employees in actively focusing on safety, every day. At all levels of the company, safety is our priority. Because having healthy, safe employee-owners is what matters most.
