The Crown Iron site in northeast Minneapolis was a blighted and unattractive property with extensive indoor and outdoor contamination that had prohibited site redevelopment. We coordinated the grant process with Hillcrest Development and the City of Minneapolis, resulting in the Crown Center property receiving five grants totaling $1.6 million.
During remediation, we directed and oversaw the site environmental cleanup by designing a comprehensive testing process to identify contaminated areas. Because of these tests, Hillcrest was able to coordinate site construction schedules to save time and money. After the removal and replacement of 10,000 tons of soil, the 6.5-acre property was environmentally compliant. Operating under a tight schedule, we condensed the cleanup process so that the entire remediation and site construction was completed in 90 days. The end result, the redeveloped Crown Center is a 120,000-square-foot redevelopment filled with new businesses that have brought more than 160 jobs to the area.
