The 8200 Tower is an 11-story office building with an adjacent 5-level parking ramp. An elevated skyway connects the new parking ramp with the existing ramp to the south, spanning West 83rd Street. Braun Intertec provided the design team with a geotechnical evaluation summarizing the subsurface soil and groundwater conditions and provided recommendations for the design of multiple soil bearing pressures to optimize footing sizes. We also provided recommendations for the design of piled foundations in a localized area where soil correction was not feasible.
To perform the geotechnical design, we conducted standard penetration test (SPT) borings and pressuremeter tests to evaluate the load-bearing capacity of the on-site soils to support foundation systems on high-capacity footings. We also performed special inspections as the project was constructed. Our inspections included soil corrections, piling, post-tensioned concrete, masonry and structural steel.
