Braun Intertec Volunteers at Girl Time 2019

Women in STEM

A few of our Braun Intertec employee-owners recently made their way out to theWorks Museumto lead an activity for its Girl Time 2019 event. Girl Time is a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) event that allows girls and their families to experience the work of women scientists and engineers through hands-on demonstrations.

With women representing only 13% of the engineering workforce, this event aims to inspire girls and get them excited about the possibilities of engineering from female role models. Girl Time provides an opportunity for girls to interact with women in STEM and learn about what inspires them, how they got started in their careers, and what they love about their field.

The activity, provided by our friends at Science from Scientists, demonstrated the effectiveness of various earthquake-resistant building designs. Using blocks and other materials provided, attendees were able to build different building types to see which design provided the best protection and stability during earthquake conditions.

About the Works Museum:Even though Girl Time is an annual event, the Works Museum delivers exciting experiences year-round through interactive exhibits and programs, serving more than 75,000 children, families, and educators each year. Braun Intertec is proud to support events like these that promote women in STEM and inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers and problem-solvers.
